Radiohead at the Henry Fonda in Los Angeles – 1.24.2010

This evening I was fortunate enough to be chosen as the recipient of one of the most honest, wonderful, heartbreaking, tear-inducing acts of kindness to which I’ve ever been a witness. A friend, to whom I haven’t spoken substantially in a fairly significant amount of time, gave me his extra ticket to one of the most incredible concerts I’ve had the opportunity to attend. I am forever in his debt, and additionally feel entirely compelled to try and enable someone else in a similar way.

The concert was unbelievable. At the bottom of this post I have reproduced a set list. They played a total of 24 songs, starting at 8:30 and finishing at roughly 10:30. There were two encores, several songs which Thom York played solo (including Everything in its Right Place), and a new song which he played with an acoustic guitar, titled “Lotus Flower.” There were several moments during the show that saw me nearly crying, which has not happened to me before. I did not deserve to be there.

The show raised more than 570000 dollars in one evening. The minimum bid for a ticket was $475, but one man paid $4000 for his pair.

Given this experience, all I can do is look back and smile. One person gave me the experience of a lifetime, and for no other reason than because I wouldn’t have had it otherwise. I am grateful in ways that I cannot even fully understand, and I will never forget this. I did not deserve this. I could never have deserved this. I wish more than anything that I could have been the one to give this to someone – and I can think of at least one or two people to whom it is owed more than me.
